As health care professionals, you are well aware of the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene and preserving your teeth for a lifetime.
Nursing staff should be able to differentiate between healthy and unhealthy conditions of the oral cavity and its prosthesis, and demonstrate and perform oral hygiene techniques for the geriatric patient.
The maintenance of good oral health and the retention of teeth increases the quality of life for patients.

|
Please Note: The following video clips have been edited for the Internet --
File size (and therefore quality) has been reduced to facilitate Internet download time. They are provided here as a sample of content. The video clips on our CD-ROM are of much greater quality and higher resolution. |

| If long term care facilities are interested in providing total care to their residents, they must have an oral health policy which promotes rational dental care through a combined effort of the dental team and the nursing home staff. |
| |
| You can interact with the course through questions at the end of each section. You can take one section or all of the sections and go in and out of the CD-ROM as you please. There are further references for you if you want to learn more about a specific area of the CD-ROM. |
